Religiously, we fast to subdue our flesh and uplift our spirit. By this process you’re raising your spirit to be in control of your body because when you fast you deprive yourself of something you love and normally can’t do without whilst praying and focusing majorly on spiritual growth. When you’re observing a religious fast you have to pray. Most times we fast by depriving ourselves of food but we can also do that for technology(depriving yourself from watching the TV, your phones, video games and so on to focus on spiritual growth).
Generally food fasting has some health benefits including; Improved heart health(lowering cholesterol and blood pressure), boosts brain health(helps improve focus), better blood sugar control(keeping sugar level balanced and preventing diabetes), gives your body a break(your digestive system gets time to rest and will work better when you eat again) and lastly fasting is said to help you live longer( risks of getting common diseases are reduced since fasting also helps your body clean out old, damaged cells and make new, healthier ones).
